Oils for Immune Function


It is frequently brought to our attention how our environment is constantly bombarding us with stimuli. Thoughts, sights, smells, sounds all are integrated by our nervous system at all times. This is both something to be aware of, and can be used to your advantage! In regards to your immune system, there are oils that directly stimulate the immune system and oils that promote sleep function, skin health, and respiratory efficiency which all enhance your immune function. Let’s look at a few oils that help boost immune function:


  1. An all encompassing oil, lavender promotes relaxation and sleep. Restorative rest through better sleep allows the immune system to build up and be prepared for your waking hours in the world.

  2. Lemon is commonly used in household cleaners due to its antibacterial properties and pleasant scent. It is an antioxidant that is beneficial to the immune system. Giving you a boost, lemon can also leaving you feel refreshed and energized

  3. Eucalyptus oil has antiviral and antibacterial properties, known to help fight off diseases such as the flu, chicken pox, and measles, as well as help with respiratory infections.

  4. Like lavender, peppermint is a catch-all of oils. Peppermint oil has been known to help treat many common ailments such as headaches and digestive issues. Like Eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil goes beyond common ailments and can help prevent and support during colds, fevers, and the flu.

  5. Tea Tree oil is less popular, but it is very powerful for your immune system! As an antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral oil, tea tree oil is wonderful at combating invadors. If you tend to be sensitive to smells, tea tree is an excellent choice for you as it is very gentle.

  6. An immune system stimulant, palmarosa oil also promotes skin health. With skin health comes better protection from external toxins. Palmarosa oil is a brother of tea tree oil with its antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties.



Using any of these oils or combining them in a diffuser is an excellent way to help boost your immune system! Try combining different oils for the most encompassing immune system stimulation and find which scents you love the most. If there is one you like the most, try placing a drop onto your wrist or into a lava rock bracelet. Work with your environment to keep you in the best health possible!
